What to see at Hill Palace
Hill Palace Museum combines a former royal residence with collections spanning court life, art and archaeology. The palace was built in 1865, and the museum was established in 1984 before opening to the public in 1986.
Inside, the collection ranges from royal jewellery and palace furniture to chariots, portraits, sculptures, inscriptions and ancient coins. Among its notable objects is a jewelled gold crown weighing 1.75 kg; Chinese pottery, ivory objects, weapons and megalithic remains broaden the collection beyond the royal holdings.
Kerala Tourism describes galleries devoted to portraits, wood carving, manuscripts, epigraphy, porcelain, coins, weapons and sculpture. The oldest building is an ettukettu, which houses the Heritage Museum. Photography is prohibited inside the museum, and you must remove your footwear before entering the archaeological building.
